At independence drawing inspiration from the promises made during
the national liberation struggle, many constitutional and legal provisons were made
for advancement of women. Political parties of various shades and women’s
organization of different strands took issues to combat deprivation of women.
Consequently, during the post independence period equality was codified and
mechanisms for its realization were institutionalized.
In Bihar women
formed more than one half of the total population. So progressive parties in 1970’s
made sporadic and uninterested effort to empower women. As a result in 1974,
in order to educate the deprived women folk the gala opening of Govt. Women’s
College alternatively known as Rajkiya Mahila Mahavidyalaya Gardanibagh Patna
was made by Govt. of Bihar.
Initially the
college was opened in the premises of Rajkiya Kanya Ucch Vidyalaya but gradually
it made enough progress.
Initially the
College started with late Mrs. Prabhawati Singh as principal and fifteen founder
lecturers being Dr. Danshilta Hembrom, Dr. Kasturi Gupta, Smt. Asha Singh,
Dr. Meghla Biswas, Dr. Vasundhara Sinha, Ms Naushaba Khatoon, Smt. Basanti Sinha,
Ms Radha Rani Mazumdar, Smt. Shikha Das Gupta, Smt Abha Rani Yadav, Smt. Jayanti
Sardar, Smt. Anjali Ghosh Dastidar, Smt Mary Emna Kulla. Ekka, Smt Mary Joseph,
Smt. Shamim Sadiqua.
The College has

The college has
gradually developed Presently it has its own building & running
two faculties :- (1) Science and (ii) Arts
The library has
been remodeled. Provision of a Reading Room and reference section has been granted
for the students.
Many programmes have been sponsored in the college campus for the benefit
of students, personality development, career counseling job prospectus etc.
From time to time the lecturers of this college have been attending National and
International Seminars.
Many students
have made bright achievements in various fields. Ms sweta sinha has excelled in
SSC. Mrs. Amrita Kumari has become an anchor in the PTN. Mrs. Ritu and Ms Archana
has qualified in Ph.D. entrance test. Ms Sapna Kumari has excelled in mass media.
Ms Puneeta Priyadarshi has qualified in Bank of Baroda as p.O. and Ms Supriya
Singh has qualified as P.O. in SBI. Students namely Mamta Kumari and
Nidhi Kumari has been honoured by scholarships of Hindustan.
FORWEORD:- I wise and hope the college in future is able to start slasses
in the faculty of commerce and start a number of Vocational courses. Yes, I hope
my students will come out in flying colors in every sphere of life where ever they
